Posts: 5392 06/30/09 7:34 PM Star's Hero	Tags : None It has been over nine months since the last new episode of Eureka aired back on September 23, and it was about six months before they repeated anything, and when they did it was the same eight Season Three episodes on three separate occasions. If they had any sense and any hope of generating more interest in this show they would have been repeating it from the beginning. They've certainly had the time, since just about anything else they've had of interest has also been on hiatus, been canceled or completed its run. In any case, the long wait is nearly over. However, Eureka will not be on Tuesdays anymore as it has before, they are moving it to Fridays beginning next week, July 10, at 9pm/8c. There also seems to be some confusion about whether they consider this a continuation of Season Three or if they will be calling it Season Four. When it first showed up on the schedule a couple of months ago it was designated Season 3.5, but a recent news release called it the beginning of 4. Not that it really matters, I'm just glad it's going to be on again, and I for one am anxious to Welcome Back Carter! Last Edited By: ecgordon 08/22/09 12:21 PM. Edited 1 time.

Posts: 5401 07/09/09 6:43 PM Star's Hero	The eight episodes of Season Three will be repeated yet again tomorrow, from 8am-4pm (Eastern/Pacific), with the new episode, "Welcome Back Carter," airing at 9pm/8c, and repeated at Midnight/11pm. The network's schedule now indicates they consider this to be the beginning of Season 3.5.

Otherwise, this ep seemed mostly just a way to get Carter back in with minimal fuss. (Of course I also continue to always wonder just how much of what happens has already been experienced by Henry, and how much is different for him.) There's quite a few things they could do with it, make him a deputy or a security guard at GD, or some such. As long as Fargo doesn't tinker with him too much that is. Ty Olsson was in the opening credits, however he is not on the cast list for the episode on IMDb.com (nor any episode of Eureka) at this time, so there's no way to know if he may return.

Posts: 5411 07/19/09 7:47 AM Star's Hero	I'm still enjoying Eureka, but still think they write Carter's character as a dummy too much. The guy was a U.S. Marshall before coming to town, and they are probably as well trained as FBI, so no dummy by any stretch of the imagination. He may not have the IQ of the scientists, or even near that of Zoe, but still no dummy. Another problem with the last episode is how Julia was able to steal the items inside other GD labs without being picked up on security monitors. Methinks Allison has let her pregnancy distract her from her duties.

Posts: 870 07/19/09 10:08 AM	I think Carter is alwasy shown to be smart, in many ways smarter than the scientists, while seeming... not so much dumb as a kind of mix of goofy and befuddled, or... bemused. I dunno. More of a reaction to the oddness around him. But he more than holds his own in town. After all, they never would have wanted him as sheriff in the first place if they didn't respect his abilities. And we've seen a possible future in which he's married to Allison, who surely wouldn't be with someone whose intelligence she didn't respect. Nor would Henry likely be best friends with a dummy. And even Jo, in spite of her constant assertion that she'd make a better sheriff, clearly respects him as her superior (more or less). In fact I wonder if at least part of his appearance of "dumbness" is intentional on his part, so people will let their guard down because they underestimate him. I suppose also he's a surrogate for viewers, someone with whom to identify, in a very old fictional mold of normal person caught up in unsual events. Also I think most TV viewers these days like shows where they can look down on the characters, which is why so many TV characters are dumb (and most TV geniuses are socially inept). Of course, Carter is smarter than most TV viewers, and while he might be looked down on by some of the people around him, he can also secretly look down on them, and viewers can do so through him. Posts: 881 08/01/09 9:21 AM	When they were talking about freezing that thing, I thought of The Blob, so I thought it was cool a couple scenes later when Carter said "It worked in The Blob." Liked the Hulk reference, and all the bowling stuff, especially when Fargo picked up that 7/10 split, though I totally predicted it. Also there's more of Carter sounding kind of dumb (though I think sometimes he's making simple metaphors, rather than actually meaning what he says literally). Still, I'll admit the moments when he displays his cleverness is often just him picking up on things that it's strange the geniuses didn't think of, because... anyone should be able to. Preview of next week of course makes it sound like whatever's happening is directly related to "the signal," but I seriously doubt that plotline would really get any kind of payoff this soon, it's probably something unrelated. I do wonder if whatever's coming is looking for the artifact that figured so prominently in season 1... but I don't even remember whatever happened to that... Posts: 5446 08/16/09 7:33 AM Star's Hero	This was the best episode in a long time, at least since last year's "I Do Over," and really as good as the best from Season One (which I've been rewatching lately). I hope they build on this story rather than ignoring it like they've done too many times in the past. I would think they could work on information gleaned from the ship and computers (the original and Kim 2.0) for the rest of the season at least. I was also glad to see Tamlyn back, and Joe Morton's performance in reaction to that was great. It hurt him to even consider working near her at first, but his love for Kim is still strong and what else is he going to do? If there's any chance that a little bit of Kim is in there he has to cherish that. What would be even better would be if this causes him to confess to Jack about how he wiped his memory of his future with Allison. At the least, I hope they don't treat Tamlyn the way they did in Season One. She was introduced in the third episode, then we didn't see her again until the twelfth, then she was dead.

I mean I'm sure alot of stuff might happen differently this time around, but there are some things I can't imagine he wouldn't have already experienced, and that includes the return of the ship. But even if I'm willing to assume he's usually just pretending not to remember some things, this... is too big, and too personal. I cannot accept that it didn't happen in his past, and I cannot accept that he wouldn't remember it, nor that he'd even be capable of pretending not to remember it. Posts: 5456 08/22/09 12:24 PM Star's Hero	It seems possible that the writers have been paying attention to those of us who were complaining about their dumbing-down of Carter, since in the past two episodes he has been more of the intuitive, take-charge guy we saw in Season One. I don't think we can assume that things are happening the same way they did in that alternate future. It was Henry's meddling that caused that future in the first place, so without that meddling things quite possibly are completely different than anything he experienced before. What I was hoping was that the restoration might affect more than just the memories lost in this episode... and actually restore Carter's memory of the future. That doesn't seem to have happened, however... for the moment I'll continue to hold the hope that it's just because he was concentrating on the situation at hand. And maybe in the episodes to come... he might not give away that his memories have fully returned, but he could eventually confront Henry. Posts: 5461 08/29/09 9:18 AM Star's Hero	Carter didn't imprint any memories into the device so he was not effected with memory loss, thus he didn't have to have any memories restored. If he had then you might have a point about him remembering the alternate reality. At the end when Fargo was correcting the problem there was a brief clip of when Henry wiped Jack's memories in Season Two Episode One, so I suppose that means Henry must have imprinted that memory himself, but it seems odd that he would have done that.

Posts: 5462 08/29/09 10:26 AM Star's Hero	I am sure the only ones effected were those who had imprinted memories into the device. Neither Jack or Zoe did that. I had wondered about when Tess was effected, but on scanning through the ep again I noticed one time when the scene returned to Cafe Diem, she was shown holding the device up in front of her face, so she probably had just recounted a memory into it. I'd be willing to bet that her memory was of her first kiss with Jack, since his kissing her later was what brought her memory back. The memories were restored directly from Tess' recording device with a signal sent out by Fargo, so since Jack and Zoe hadn't imprinted any memory into it (and Jack never had one of the devices to begin with that I recall seeing), they were also not effected by the "re-memory" process.

The schedule is really weird though, with the order of the episodes all jumbled, with the two-hour pilot being the 16th hour into the marathon. Eureka has been renewed for a fourth season, which is supposed to contain 22 episodes, although there is no telling how long they will stretch that out. They might as well have said they were renewing it for two more seasons of 11 episodes each, since that is probably how it will be scheduled. Also, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if that ends up being the last of the series.

Posts: 5476 09/13/09 7:52 AM Star's Hero	They were never buddies, although they did work together a couple of times, but their relationship began as adversaries. The writer's either slipped up a bit or else they are conceding that this "season" has lasted more than a year in Eureka time. Taggart was last seen in the second season finale "A Night in Global Dynamics," and here it is one episode away from the third season finale, and Jo says its been two years since he had left without telling her. It has been nearly two years in our time of course. Zoe is still just a junior, and yet they are talking about her leaving for Harvard next year. In the flash-forward alternate reality of the first season finale they had Zoe graduating high school in 2010. They need to make up their mind about how much time has passed. Also, next time I see Zane in a hospital bed it should be his death bed. That guy is a waste of space, and although the Jo-Taggart pairing doesn't make much sense either, she deserves better than the conceited Zane.

Posts: 5477 09/13/09 9:50 AM Star's Hero	Even though I didn't watch the preview for next week's episode, I've seen comments about it other places, and Harvard is mentioned. Jordan Hinson is going to be on Kelsey Grammer's new show "Hank" starting soon, but of course she might have time for a few short scenes in Eureka's fourth season, which would have a different shooting schedule anyhow. Same goes for Jamie Ray Newman, who will be on the new "Eastwick." Jo did mention it being two years since he had left, either in the first scene he was in, down at the ice core at GD, or else when they saw each other later at Cafe Diem.
