"Turn Left." Thought it was nice seeing all the things that would've gone wrong if Donna had never met the Doctor. Though it's also nice
that, in spite of things turning out worse, a few disasters were at least dealt with by humans. The aftermath of the incidents may have sucked, but just
getting through them without his help, I mean. And I liked hearing not just Sarah Jane's name mentioned, but also other characters from her show. And of
course we know things would have gone badly elsewhere in the universe, not just Earth, so it was nice to see the stars winking out, even if that's not
quite the same thing as the incidents from specific episodes... though I think it goes back to a prediction I made a few episodes into the season. And of
course it's nice to see Rose again, and the season finale shall have plenty of guest stars, which will be cool. And I'm looking forward to learning
just how Bad Wolf comes back into play....

I'm gonna have to rewatch the last few episodes from Series One to refresh my memory about Bad Wolf.

"The Stolen Earth" was a pretty good lead-up to the season finale next week. I enjoyed seeing all the different teams working together. Unfortunately
I know nothing of the history of the old series, the Time Wars and Davros and the creation of the Daleks. Hopefully the story won't suffer from that lack
of knowledge.

Well, the Time Wars happened sometime after the old series, so I know pretty much nothing about that, myself. I think it was in a series of novels or
something. I never read any of that, though I probably should someday. Davros I know all too well, though. Anyway, it was indeed nice seeing the different
groups... shame Maria and Clyde weren't with Sarah Jane and Luke. And it's cool to see the Shadow Proclamation. I think the first time I recall ever
hearing of that was in The Christmas Invasion movie a few years back, though I think it's been mentioned in passing a few times since then. I think there
were probably lots of things that sounded familiar in this ep even if I couldn't place them, and I probably missed plenty of other things I should have
recognized. Hmmm, and of course i just finished watching the episode like 2 minutes ago, I'm sure I've already forgetten things. But I look forward to
seeing how it all turns out next week. The preview had the same actor playing the Doctor, so... I wonder if the regeneration actually fails to happen, or just
takes awhile, or what. It always seems to be impossible to predict exactly how that'll go.
Edit: Also meant to say, I thought it a bit odd that we only get to see one branch of Torchwood. Well, not surprising at all, but it does always bug me that we never get to see the other branches...

How many different Torchwood installations are there (or how many were there in the past)? Didn't the London one get destroyed in "Doomsday" back
at the end of Season 2? I don't think it was rebuilt according to something said in the Season 3 story arc where Captain Jack accompanied The Doctor and
Martha for several episodes.

The original Torchwood was in Scotland, but I don't think that's around anymore. In the modern era, Torchwood One was in London, and yeah, that's
gone. Torchwood Two is in Glasgow. Torchwood Three is in Cardiff, that's the one we know. Torchwood Four "disappeared." That's all I know.

Wow, lots of awesomeness. First of all... Daleks. Speaking. German. Just, wow. Then, all those reunions. A human Doctor, and a Doctor-Donna. And everyone
piloting the tardis together... yeah, it'd probably work better with a full crew all the time, even if it is a bit crowded. At least the Doctor
wouldn't always have to run around the console. And Doctor-Donna knowing how to fix the chameleon circuit. And I wouldn't be surprised if Mickey joined
Torchwood, that'd be neat. And Rose has her Doctor. And Rose and the (real) Doctor recognized Gwen, which made me check IMDb: Eve Myles played Gwyneth in
an ep of Doctor Who set in Cardiff, 1869. Neat.
I'm sorry to see Donna go, but it couldn't last. It never does. Sorry she had to forget everything, but... it as a good scene with her grandfather and the Doctor... And I'm probably forgetting stuff already, but... lots of awesomeness. |

I think the word awesome is overused a lot, but in this particular case I think it is appropriate. Considering they are talking about just a few specials over
the next year and the regular series not returning until 2010, I think it was fitting that there was so much closure for a lot of characters. I had never
warmed to Donna, so it doesn't bother me that she will probably not return.
During the scene when Davros was telling The Doctor how he had been responsible for so many deaths, I recognized several of the characters - Penny from "The Doctor's Daughter," Dee Dee from "Midnight" and Astrid from "Voyage of the Damned." Some of the others did not look familiar to me, so am I correct in assuming they may have been companions or other characters from previous series? |

Um... those flashes kind of went too fast for me, I was trying to notice if any of them were from the old series, but I wasn't sure. I probably
should've watched it in slow mo before deleting it.

On a second viewing I recognized River Song from "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead." Not sure why I missed her the first time. Other than
that, there were a couple of minor characters I recognized but couldn't identify by name or episode, but they are probably from the current series. There
are also several I didn't recognize at all, but it's been a long time since I've seen any of seasons one or two, so they may be from there. I do
not remember Eve Myles being in "The Unquiet Dead," which was just the third episode of season one, when they went back and met Charles Dickens.

Watched that scene again, nope, no original series folks, you'd have to go back to at least 1993 and I didn't see anyone from the old days. You can see
it and review it on youtube here, about 5 minutes or so into the clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WxN7qT9Qcg&NR=1 I didn't really care for Donna either, when she first showed up. But I really got a lump in my throat the way she went out and how she is exiled from all that greatness and can never know. And I shed some tears for Harriet Jones. She did what she thought was right, the Doctor screwed her over for Torchwood and defense of the Earth and yet, she stood by him and died for him and the universe. I really don't know how they are going to top the 4th season... |

Welp, I downloaded the 2008 Christmas special, "The Next Doctor," since I wasn't sure when it might air on Sci-Fi. And I wanted to see it. It
wasn't bad. Wrote up a review for my site, but it's brief and
doesn't really spoil anything, as far as I can tell.

I enjoyed it, at least it wasn't as sad and high body count-wise as most of the specials. I've found I've grown very fond of the 10th Doctor, I
hate to see his term come to an end like they have announced...

The next Doctor Who special, "Planet of the Dead," which aired in the UK on the Easter weekend, shows up this Sunday night on BBC-America at 8pm
Eastern. It will run in a 75 minute time slot. Co-starring with David Tennant is Michelle Ryan, the rebooted Bionic Woman's Jamie Sommers, but she was much
better in the BBC mini-series Jekyll.

It's hard to know quite what to think of these latest specials, of which we've just seen the first. I mean, they're just sort of irregular episodes
of series 4, not like the annual Christmas specials. But then I don't really think of them as being part of series 4, exactly... though technically they
are. I dunno. Anyway, I look forward to the remaining three specials, as well as series 5.
As for Planet of the Dead, it was entertaining enough. I made a couple of predictions seconds before they happened, that's always fun. And it was nice to see Michelle Ryan, I liked her character here. And I liked this Malcolm fellow. Look forward to seeing Carmen's prediction manifest. She kind of vaguely reminded me of Rose from Lost, and when she was talking to the Doctor at the end, the music that played also reminded me of Lost. Not sure what else to say... I suppose a new thread about the specials could have been started, but here's just as good a place as any to discuss them.
One thing I found interesting is that in both The Next Doctor and Planet of the Dead, The Doctor expressed the thought that since he had lost a lot of companions over the years, and they had broken his heart by leaving, he was not interested in recruiting another. But we know that's not going to be permanent, at least not for the next regenerated Doctor, since they've already announced the actress that would be Matt Smith's first companion. It would be nice to see Christina again. She certainly proved she could make a good companion, that is if she could be a little less self-serving. The Doctor could probably straighten her out given enough time. And Michelle Ryan certainly proved that the bomb that was Bionic Woman was hardly her fault. |

I hope you watch Jekyll (if you haven't yet), she was fantastic in it. Probably my fave thing she's done. She's in the new Merlin but like I said,
the show is done "Smallville" style, jumbling the legends and mythos so hard, it's hard to watch sometimes...
