I was not surprised that Shirley Manson's character turned out to be a Terminator, but I was surprised that she was a T-1001 (that's what FOX is calling it rather than 1000) Liquid Metal model. I figured that effect would be beyond the budget of the tv show. I've read that they promise the effect will be used again, but I'll bet it will be very limited.
They definitely ramped up the action in this episode, and I liked most of it. Of course I love Summer Glau, which is the main reason I am watching the show in the first place, but I don't think they handled her transformation into a threatening terminator well. Not necessarily that the explosion would reset her programming, but that she could convince John so easily that she was back to "normal." It was just a few seconds between the time she threw the pipe wrench through the windshield at John to when she was pleading with him not to pull her chip, since she "loved him." I think it would have been better ending the episode with her still in attack mode, with the shift back to protector mode coming next week.
