Posts: 4879 09/09/08 3:56 PM Star's Hero	Tags : None Anyone who has not seen the Season Two premiere yet would do best to skip this thread until they have. You Have Been Warned Spoilers Ahead * * * * * * * * * I was not surprised that Shirley Manson's character turned out to be a Terminator, but I was surprised that she was a T-1001 (that's what FOX is calling it rather than 1000) Liquid Metal model. I figured that effect would be beyond the budget of the tv show. I've read that they promise the effect will be used again, but I'll bet it will be very limited. They definitely ramped up the action in this episode, and I liked most of it. Of course I love Summer Glau, which is the main reason I am watching the show in the first place, but I don't think they handled her transformation into a threatening terminator well. Not necessarily that the explosion would reset her programming, but that she could convince John so easily that she was back to "normal." It was just a few seconds between the time she threw the pipe wrench through the windshield at John to when she was pleading with him not to pull her chip, since she "loved him." I think it would have been better ending the episode with her still in attack mode, with the shift back to protector mode coming next week.

Posts: 4886 09/15/08 7:13 PM Star's Hero	Be warned, spoilers ahead for the current episode... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I have been an SF fan for over forty years, of books, tv and movies, so I know all about the concept of suspension of disbelief. I have no problem accepting time travel or the idea that a computer program could be sophisticated enough to become self-aware and declare war on humanity, or that it could create robotic creatures that can mimic human behavior. But don't ask me to accept the idea that people can walk into a nuclear power plant by just showing a state issued ID and get a job there the same day. I'm not that gullible. They really need to tighten up story lines like this in the future.

There's a long view and one of the crosses on the left side of the screen has a dollar sign ($) on it. And it's the old dollar sign, with the double lines through it. Some hidden message? It just kind of jumped out at me. Oh yeah, there was one thing that bothered me a bit. 'Uncle' Reese was carrying a 40 mm. M-79 grenade launcher, a "blooper" from the Viet Nam War era and the 2nd Terminator movie too. I mean, maybe it was loaded with a shotgun round, but I was wondering what he was going to do if he found the terminator and fired a 40 mm. grenade in a very tight space? Kind of like firing a rocket from inside a van with the doors shut...

Posts: 698 10/01/08 9:39 AM	Well, I like learning more about Ellison, and seeing him accept the job offer, I look forward to seeing where this leads. And I wonder who or what that so-called "daughter" actually is... More importantly, we learn more about Cameron, and meet Allison. That was certainly interesting. And clearly there's something very wrong with Cameron that must be fixed. But at least Summer got to do some acting in this episode. I think Sarah admitting at least a partial truth about John's father should lead pregnant girl to ask more questions... like, do John and Cameron have different fathers, and what happened to Cameron's? Oh yeah, and last season, Cameron had agreed to a date with a guy at school, before the car bomb happened. I kind of hoped to see something more with that. But I guess... there's nothing. Oh well.

Now the question remains whether they will move it to another night or put it on a long break when Dollhouse starts. They had already announced that Dollhouse will be in that same time slot when "24" returns in January.

Posts: 704 10/21/08 12:46 PM	Didn't get a chance to record last night's ep as there were two other things being recorded at the same time, but I just watched it online. And I thought everything about it was pretty damn good. The psychologist saying Cameron showed signs of Asperger's was nice. And everything involving him was nice, actually... getting to see a bit of what's going on in John's head, as well as Sarah's. And his take on Weaver's A.I. I think I must've heard that joke before sometime, but I didn't remember it, and it was amusing. Meanwhile I'm getting more interested in what Weaver's up to. And why was that terminator sent to the doctor... was it to kill him? Because it seems like he's going to help Weaver, so it makes me wonder if she could be against Skynet. Also I look forward to seeing more development between Weaver and Savannah. And also learning what's up with the woman Derek was with. And... ah, all kinds of interesting stuff going on....

Posts: 4941 10/21/08 5:48 PM Star's Hero	I agree there were a lot of good character bits and plot exposition last night. It does seem that Weaver has her own agenda, but it is still too early to tell. The Terminator had to have been sent back to kill or kidnap Dr. Sherman since it would be unlikely they would know that John and Sarah would be visiting him. As for the doctor, it has been way too long since I've seen Dorian Harewood, which is a shame 'cause he's a great actor. Checking his imdb profile it seems that the pilot of Kyle XY is the last time I saw him, and before that it was Boomtown, more than five years ago. Jesse had photos of Derek and John next to her bed, so I am sure her story about deserting the future war was not legit. She's either checking up on Derek or she is a renegade working for Skynet. Another possibilty is that she is a terminator herself patterned after the real Jesse. Both she and Dr. Sherman are listed for Episode #8, which won't air for at least three weeks. There is a repeat scheduled for next week, then Episode 7 will be on November 3.

Posts: 705 10/22/08 6:40 AM	Something that didn't occur to me until last night, which I probably should have thought of while watching the episode, is that it must be hard for Sarah to have anything to do with a psychiatrist (or psychologist) after the years she spent in a mental institution. But I expect this point will have to be mentioned in the show sometime soon.

Posts: 4950 11/01/08 9:35 AM Star's Hero	I agree that it has been getting better, and I guess the network thinks the same thing since they gave it the full season order in spite of low ratings. Also it is quite possible they are keeping it around as an advertising bonus for T4 coming out next year. This is another in a long line of SF shows that seemingly have a short shelf-life, story-wise at least. I do hope that the network lets the producers know ahead of time if they are going to pull the plug so that a satisfying conclusion can be written.

Posts: 2827 11/02/08 1:11 AM Registered User	Finally got caught up after being behind for 2 or 3 weeks. Really enjoyed the episodes. I almost felt sorry for the new female Terminator coming up against Cameron. She got her ass pretzel'd and had only been in the past for what, maybe a day? That was a hilarious scene though, the kid in the elevator being the only one that saw what was going on. Oh yeah, I looked up Dr. Sherman (Dorian Harewood), I knew I had seen him or rather heard him before, he's like a cartoon voice giant, everything from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the new Spiderman cartoon!

Maybe she was working for her daughter, actually. I dunno, I forget... but it was weird.

Posts: 4954 11/02/08 11:49 AM Star's Hero	This show has bypassed the events in T3 by the forward time jump in the pilot episode last year, so it is an alternate timeline. There is no reason to expect it to go in the direction that will lead in to T4. In fact they can do anything they want with this version, even have Sarah and John be successful in stopping Skynet from ever being created. That's what I meant by a satisfactory conclusion for the series.

Posts: 4960 11/05/08 6:33 PM Star's Hero	A very tense episode this week, with good acting all around. I wasn't even irritated by Riley this time. Sarah finally knows about Jesse but Derek is still keeping secrets about her, lying to Sarah that she had been one of the ones to come back in time with him and that she is now dead. I may have missed something, or maybe there was a scene deleted, but he seemed to imply that he knew something about what Jesse had been doing in relation to the fence, and that might not have been the first time he had dealt with him either. Cameron surprised me in the bowling alley, since they had been dealing so much with how she had been "humanizing" herself, but what she did made perfect sense. If this was a real situation I am sure she would not have believed Sarah about no one being in the restroom, but Cromartie finding the guy will more than likely lead into a later confrontation. The only thing I wasn't sure about is whether the person who killed the fake Ellison terminator was actually Cromartie or if it was Catherine Weaver in yet another morphing disguise.

He's not a big guy, but he can rediate menace like the other models just fine. Oh yeah, I watched 300 again last week and it's so hard to put the Queen of Sparta with Sarah Connor; she owns that character now...
